In general, golf swings do not vary much. The golf grip, swing, and tracks are usually very similar, regardless of the golfer. But when it comes to putting, golfers tend to have different postures, grips, and swings in an attempt to sink that birdie into a piece of cake.

The manufacturers of golf clubs have even come to ask for “different”, creating putters that have interesting head designs and shaft lengths. A characteristic that many golfers have begun to adopt is the central shafted putter. The best central shaft putters come with all the other features found in a traditional folded shaft putter.

But why can central shafted putters ask? First, the central shafted putters increase the balance since the axis is centered on the clubhead. Another reason why people like central axis putters is that it is very easy to align the putter and make sure that the face of the putter is square in the direction.

While there are many options when it comes to central shafted putters, some putters stand out more than others. From top-quality materials and performance to great value, some putters are better than others. And we created this guide to help you identify the 10 best central shafted putters on the market.

What is a Center Shafted Putters?

Now, for those who do not know, a Central Shafted Putter is more or less what is read on the can. A putter with a shaft that connects to the head, not on the heel where you will usually find it, but rather towards the center of the head. Sometimes it will be in the money, and sometimes it will slightly favor the heel side.

Of course, heel putters are much more common, but their central axis counterparts have their own niche, and it has been steadily growing for the last quarter of a century or so. The trend seems to have started more or less when the late and great Payne Stewart took the 1999 US Open, with Phil Mickelson as a finalist.

What Are the Benefits of the Center Shafted Putters?

So why would someone want a central axis putter? Well, most of them are balanced, with a weight evenly distributed between the heel and the toe. Together with the axis that enters the head in the equidistance between the heel and the toe (or around), this allows you to execute a straight backward and direct blow (SBST) with the least possible drift or without drift.

Here is a penny of free tips on how to check if your flagpole is really balanced: take approximately six inches behind your head and try to balance it with one finger. If it stays horizontal, you have a balanced putter on the face in the hands (or on the finger, rather).

On a more serious note, some players and coaches notice that with a putter with a heel your mishits will be more likely to go in one direction than in another.

On the other hand, with its counterparts with the central shafted putters, it could never mark where their mishits will go. If you can live with such compensation (easier to achieve an SBST, but there is no way to control the mishits), then you may want to go with a central shafted putter.

1. Callaway Odyssey Stroke Lab Versa Putter

Callaway Odyssey Stroke Lab Versa Putter

Odyssey is one of the best putters in the world that have been used by Tour Players to win over a hundred PGA events and more than 600 world events.

Carry on reading below to find out why this is our #1 Top Pick Best Putter Of All Time…

Innovation has been the soul of Odyssey and with its new line of Stroke Lab putters, Odyssey has included many different features that change the game. The first and most notable change is the new Stroke Lab Shaft that has a new weighting style. More weight has been moved to each end of the shaft to increase balance and reduce total torque.

Another feature is the Micro Hinge Face that is commonly found in Odyssey White Hot putters. This style of the face increases the upper turn and causes the ball to “jump” from the face, which results in a more consistent turn. A high contrast paint job facilitates the direction and alignment of the ball.

Golfers can choose between a 35, 34, or 33-inch long putter. Two types of grip are also available and include a standard Odyssey grip and a large Super Stroke grip.

The Odyssey Stroke Labs V-Line Putter is buying far one of the best Odyssey center shaft putter on the market today!

The TaylorMade Truss is our best overall pick thanks to the superior quality, design, and feel this putter brings to the table.

This putter is a bit pricey, but if you’re looking for center shaft putters, you clearly have a lot of information about your own game and are willing to pay for quality.

The TaylorMade Truss is not as expensive as a Scotty, but you can expect to pay around $300 for this putter.

This club features a cobalt blue Pure Roll insert that is designed for better sound, feel and balance. When it comes to feeling and style, TaylorMade has traditionally done a great job.

The Truss putter is a bit more shovel than mallet style, something that is in short supply when looking for medium shaft putters. Perhaps what we like most about this putter is the fact that it is adjustable.

This Taylormade option has adjustable head weights to fine-tune this golf club to suit your style and flair. The adaptability in golf clubs has completely changed the world of golf, and we love that this is also happening with putters.

Ray Cook Golf- Silver Ray SR500 Putter

The Ray Cook Golf Silver Ray SR400 is a very low priced center shaft golf putter. This putter is perfect for the beginner who wants to try a center shaft putter.

Best Centre Shafted Putters Buying Guide

When it comes to choosing the best putter, there is simply no substitute for putting yourself professionally. While many golfers adjust for their drivers, irons, and shims, many simply neglect to prepare for a putter.

However, the putter is the club you use on each hole, and it’s a team that can dramatically affect your score.

For most golfers, the best strategy on the green is to reduce or eliminate the putt by three, improving both the back put and the short putting.

This means developing speed and distance control to place your first putt within 5 feet of the hole, and that means consistency.

Being professionally equipped for a putter helps you understand your shot and your direction, and to choose the best putter so you can hit your putts on the same part of the clubface at all times. Steer consistency is the easiest way to develop speed control, and therefore the best way to improve your performance and lower your score.

Speaking of choosing the right putter, it comes down to a few key features to keep in mind. The buying process shouldn’t be a burden, and while you may feel pressure on whether you’re on the right track, considering the length, lie, stroke arch, and putter design itself will allow you to make the La best decision.

If you can’t professionally equip yourself for a putter, here are some ways to help you better understand your needs so that you can choose the right putter for you.

How to Find Your Stroke Arc?

One of the most important aspects of choosing the best putter is understanding your hitting arc.

To see your natural hit, set up a putt with a ball and your standard putter. Use two lengths of masking tape or painter’s tape about a meter long, and lay them parallel to each other, a few inches on each side of the ball, like a narrow channel.

Stand with your toes parallel to the first line of tape and practice laying. When you look at your stroke against the straight line of the tape, you will see if your natural stroke is straight back or straight, or if you have an arc towards your stroke.

Pay attention to the degree of your bow, if you have one; The more in-depth the curve, the more you will need a putter to accommodate it. Minor curves may not require it. A putter that is not balanced (hang from moderate to high) is the right choice for those of you with a semi arc hit. If you come across a straight-back-straight shot, the face-balanced putter may be the right choice to suit your needs.

For players who have a balanced hit that combines a straight back and moderate arc hit, the MOI putter is a great buy.

How to Find Your Lie

If your putts are inconsistent, you should know if they are consistently inconsistent. In other words, if you regularly hit the wrong part of the clubface, your distance control is inconsistent and inaccurate, and you may need a putter with a lie angle that suits you best.

To see how consistent you are, spray some talc on the face of your putter.

For conventional putters, the standard lie angle appears to be around 72 degrees, while some manufacturers recommend an offset of up to 90. With a proper lie angle, you will be able to find adequate power transfer and make solid contact with the ball.

What you should know is that the lie angle is greatly affected by the length: the longer the putter, the flatter the corner will be. Drill a few putts and then look at the face of your putter. If your putts are well grouped in the center of the face, you have the right lie.

If your putts are tightly bunched up on the wrong part of your face, you need a different lie.

If your putts are all over your face, you may need to find a putter with better length, weight, or balance, or you just need more practice to build consistency. Don’t forget that it will be much easier to alter the angle if you use a hosel or band to insert the shaft.

How to Find The Right Putter Length

The standard 34-inch putter is oversized for a 5’10″man, who has a 32-inch distance between his knuckles and the ground, standing with a 40-degree bend in the direction, with his elbows gently bent and his eyes on the ball.

If you have an unusual position in the steering, with a different curvature in the back or bend your elbows, or if you are much higher or lower than 5’10 “, or you have unusually long or short arms, then the standard club lengths may not work for you.

Note that an oversized or jumbo grip creates more options for comfortably placing your hands on the club; If a putter is a comfortable size and weight for you, but the grip is not large enough for your preferred hand placement, you may simply need a larger grip.

To determine its length, we recommend that you use the adjustable slider method: if you are closer to the ball, the putter is probably too short; on the other hand, if your eyes are inside the ball and you are far away, it is too long.

Once you know your hitting style and have determined whether you need an unusual length or lie, you will have all the information you need to choose the best putter for your playing style.

How to Find The Best Putter Loft?

The loft is another feature that should affect your decision. Measured in degrees, it is the angle between a level surface and a putter face.

Without a loft, you could not create an impact and lift the ball, while with too much loft, you will not be able to control the ball since it will bounce in numerous directions.

From the looks of it, the standard loft is set between 2 and 4 degrees, while the ball and your standing position can change the loft once it hits. If you are going to play on fast greens, the attic is not as important as it is on a slower surface.

Whatever your loft is, you should try to keep a neutral hand position, if you don’t want to mess it up during adjustment.

How to Find The Right Putter Grip?

The only type of contact you have with the putter is through the grip, which means that the wrong one will lead to less efficient strokes and trouble finding your standing position.

If you’re enjoying a pendulum-like stroke, going for a fatter grip that will allow you to gain more control, inverting your shoulders and arms, is the right decision. On the other hand, most beginners seem to go for a more convenient slim grip, which can be quite tricky for those with weaker wrists.

A standard golf grip sits at around 11-12 inches with a flat front flange, while the angle on the putter face is set to 90 degrees. There is only one thing to keep in mind: if you decide to go for a giant grip, make sure that putter can fit in your golf travel bag.

How to Find The Best Putter Head Weight?

While head weight isn’t as important as lie angle and putter length, it still plays a role when it comes to finding the right fit.

A lighter head will work very well for a fast surface, while the one above the 350-gram standard appears to be a slower vegetable.

Several putters come with an adjustable head, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you, and as long as the shaft isn’t too stiff, it’s good to play.

Putters Can Help Improve your Game

We’ve compiled a list of placement drills so you can get the most out of center-axis putters.

That is why we have put together some exercises that you can use in your own time to master your shot.

Clock Putting Drill

To do this exercise, you need twelve golf balls. Put a ball around the hole as if the hole were the center of a clock. Place each ball to represent one hour on the clock, so that you have made a full circle around the hole with twelve evenly placed balls.

The balls should be three to eight feet behind the hole, depending on the distance you plan to practice. This practice exercise is very common among professionals and is incredibly useful when looking to find consistency in short putts.

Manilla Folder Putting Drill

The handle folder drill is a great drill to perfect the weight of your putts. This is great for golfers struggling to find consistency by putting the correct distance on their putts.

To do this exercise, simply place a Manilla binder about eight to ten feet away on a flat surface. These folders are very adhesive since the surface is hard and flat.

Just grab your putts and try to stop the ball at the top of the Manilla folder. This will help you find a consistent hit at that distance.

Moving the Manilla folder to different locations will allow you to practice finding this consistency at different distances.

Tigers Gate Putting Drill

This popular Tiger Woods workout is a great way to build confidence in your short putts.

Place the ball three to four feet from the hole and place two tees on the ground slightly wider than the width of your putter.

This will ensure that you find a consistent placement trace between the two shirts. This type of punch is especially useful for those who use center shaft putters.

The pendulum style is the most common when using center shaft putters. The tiger gate placement exercise is especially useful for this wing. Find a consistent straight line that suits cleaning between the placement door you’ve done with your shirts.

100 Straight Putts Putting Drill

Exercising one hundred consecutive putts is another great way to find consistency in your game of putts. This exercise is relatively simple but requires a few golf balls.

Golfers should settle about two to three feet from the hole. Hit your first putt and then continue until you’ve hit the hundred.

When making these putts, be sure to focus on your shot and alignment. This will ensure that your placement hit feels consistent.

By using this exercise, you will find that you will have a much more consistent setup and stroke when laying. Not to mention, you’ll have a lot more confident doing that three-foot birdie putt!

Final words

While central shaft putters may seem like a special element compared to a traditional offset putter, they can really help your game. If you have difficulty aligning the ball or feel that you cannot hit it in the centre of the clubface, a central axis putter may be for you!

A positive aspect of central axis putters is that if you already like a certain type of putter head style, you will still like that style even with a different axis location. Another positive aspect is that many golf club manufacturers manufacture their most popular models with a central axis as an option.

The last great feature of central axis putters is that there are putters for all budgets. From high-end putters like Odyssey to economic brands like Ray Cook, there will be a central axis putter in its price range.
